Filming - Makeup

The majority of our artists makeup was simple with a bright lip and we decided to do this as it would fit with our theme of lips which is carried throughout but also, it would draw attention to her lip syncing so then the audience would be able to tell the lyrics. On the other hand, Ellie (narrative actor) just had very plain and understated makeup so the audience would be able to really establish the difference between the artist and the narrative actors. 

Filming - Costume

Ellie (Narrative):

Outfit One

 This was a versatile outfit that we've used throughout our video, we wanted her to be dressed in something quite casual so in this outfit was one we put together for the video. We chose to put her in converse with this outfit as it made the outfit casual and quite young as that was our main aim. Also by using using a kimono it added something to the outfit which would be colourful but also, it allowed us to use it in our black and white shots where she is walking. This outfit is featured in the beginning walking shots, train and shisha shots. 

Outfit Two:

We thought this was an outfit which reflected our narrative just being at home and relaxing as its simply just a dressing gown but we used a leopard print one to show some colour and pattern still even though these shots were only used to add a little more to the story line. This outfit is obviously only shown in the getting ready shots. 

Outfit Three:

This outfit we also wanted to be casual as she was just out with her friends so she didn't need to make the effort but it was still well put together. This outfit is shown through the trolley, bowling and arcade shots, Also, it is shown in the swing shot however, she has a bright red checked shirt over the top of her tshirt to add more colour and stand out from the surrounding background.

Outfit One:

We used the same backdrop from other lip syncing shots but this time we dressed her all in black with a statement necklace which still had a edge vibe to it but still was plain as we were going to play with editing more in these shots for example we were having her dancing more and then fading the shots in to one another. 

Outfit Two:

We decided to dress her in a more bright outfit this time for the brick wall lip syncing shots as we felt she would contrast against the background but also, it would tie more in with our theme of colour and vibrancy. 

Outfit Three:

As we had used quite a bright and distracting background we felt that our artist should be dressed quite plain and simple therefore, she is wearing ripped skinny jeans and a black high neck crop top which we felt would show a casual but more relaxed side and would appeal more to the younger audience side. We also decided to put on a statement necklace to become the focal part of the outfit but also, we dressed her in red converse so there was still an element of colour to the shots,

Outfit Four:

This is the same top from before however, due to our change of shot it means that the audience is only able to see the top half of our artist but by giving her a plain outfit it meant that she wasn't to distracting from the smoke/projector shots. Also, by giving her a bright red lip it carries on our lip theme but again keeps attention to her face and lips more importantly to show the level of lip syncing that our artist was capable of. 

Outfit Five: 

This outfit was one that was more off the cuff when we were filming as we were waiting for the sun to set for filming in the fountains however, it was getting a little colder so one of our group members just used their scarf to wrap around our artist whilst we were waiting but in the end we felt it worked and that it tied in with the background we had used which was full with buildings. 

Outfit Six:

As we were in quite a bright setting with the yellow tables and chairs but also when filming, the lights reflected upon the trees which were quite a yellow green also. We thought we would keep it quite simple with a black crop top and patterned black and white trousers. We decided to do this as it still made our artist look quirky and young but gave a different vibe with our setting.

Filming - Actors

All members of our group were in the video instead of using people outside of our group therefore, this meant that we were able to film more frequently because we didn't have to worry about finding time to fit in with others timetables. On seperate occasions we used our friend for example in the bowling and arcade shots, but this was mainly after school hours so it didn't matter about finding the time to do so. By using our friend it meant that we were already all comfortable with each other which reflects when watching as we all look quite relaxed and in the end we just played the arcade games and bowling naturally. 

Digipak Feedback

At this point we chose to get feedback on our 3 digipak drafts to see what our target audience thought of our digipaks so that we could be sure they agreed with us.

From our feedback we found that our audience liked the close up a lot, we decided it would be good to keep a variation of shots anyway so are going to use this. For the front cover we found that the kisses and the flowers are the most popular, We have chosen to use the kiss one as we think there is more room for the title to the left of her.

Walking Shots

Here we have taken shots of our narrative walking, this is to tie the beginning of the video together. The shots that worked the best were the shots of girl walking over the camera i think these caused a really life like effect. I found some of the shots where the girl and the camera walk simultaneously a bit unsteady and blury so i don't think we would be able to use these. The lighting didnt effect us too much as we plan to put these shots in black and white.

Getting Ready Shots

Here are the shots we took of our narrative getting ready. We took this to put in the video at the beginning to keep the narrative flowing. We experimented alot with using the mirror to get better angles, I think the mirror shots came out really well as they was more interesting than just looking at the camera I think these will help engage by audience and also tie the whole narrative together more. We was really lucky in these shots as the natural lighting really reflected the mirror nicely so we didn't have to worry.

Digipak: Makeup

We used quite high coverage make-up when we were taking our images for the digipak and website, by doing this it means that our images would turn out more professional. We also used various types of glitter, mostly loose however, we found this worked the best and we stuck it with Vaseline which wouldn't harm our artists skin and it stuck the best opposed to the other products we were using.

Narrative Shots

Here are more shots of our narrative. We have decided not to use these shots, firstly they look very put and not natural. Also there are lots of people in the background taking the view of the actress. We also didn't like the way she kept looking at the camera as it caused a confusion between star and narrative. Finally you can see the reflection of the filming in the background.

We created a behind the scenes/extras to put on our website to suggest to the audience that she is a well known artist and people would like to see the extras, which helped make our artist believable

Change In Video Idea

• When planning our video we chose to use Lip Tattoos to make our artists lips stand out. However, even after watching tutorials on how to apply them on YouTube we still found it extremely difficult to apply them. They looked fake and strange in a close up shot so we tried various shots, however, even in a long shot you could still see how disfigured our artists lips looked when wearing the tattoo. To try different alternatives we also experimented with glitter, this worked better.

Filming - Locations

Table Shots

Here are one of the first set of lip syncing shots that we filmed. We chose a location in london. Firstly we was put of using these shots as they was in the same location as the narrative that we had used previously. At first we was going to use these shots, but we found they looked a bit impersonal and that the location was taking over, also it didn't look professional as there was people/unnecessary props in the background. After doing these shots we found that it might be more personal to do the lip syncing shots behind plain background so that our artist stood out.

Trolley, Park & Skating Shots

Within the past week we have decided to re image our narrative, giving them a more younger image rather than an older 18+ teenage look. We did this as found younger teenagers would link to our key words more, as it's easier to show them having fun and in bright colorful environments. Here we have tried a park and messing around on trolleys. We feel these shots have worked really well, you can see them laughing and having a lot more fun. Also the narrative is not looking at the camera which gets rid of the confusion we felt we had through narrative and star. We have chosen not to use the park shots though as we feel the actors didn't look very natural in these shots.

Initial Lip Syncing Shots

Here are our shots infront of the graffiti, we really loved this location as their was lots of colour and it was very bright. As with our other shots we had to chose whether to use our lipsycing or narrative shots in this location, as from feedback we found using both could get confusing. Therefore we have chose our lip syncing as she seemed much more natural infront of the camera, and this took away the added confusion of the narrative looking at the camera.

Shisha Shots

Party Shots

In these shots we created a party vibe for our narrative, we chose her to be one friend, we showed them doing normal teenage things such as drinking and dancing, We also did shots with UV paint to reflect the colorful theme we was going throughout. We had a lot of problems filming these shots, firstly due to the lack of room we had, this made the variety of angles and long shots limited. Also the lighting wasn't ideal as we couldn't make the most of natural lighting and their wasn't room for our own lighting.

In the end we decided that we was not going to use these shots, firstly because of the lack of quality but also because we decided to re image our narrative. Up until this point we had tried to portray them as a more mature teenager's but we found these shots were not working, so we have decided to image them as more young happy teenagers as we feel this would reflect the song lyrics and beat more

Fountain Shots

Here are the shots we took in south bank at the fountains. We really liked the background and the use of fountains which were really good lighting. But found this sometimes caused shot to look blurry. Our first problem with these shots were that we used both our star and narrative in the same location, once we received feedback that it became confusing to tell them apart, we decided we could use both of these. Also because they was confusing to tell the difference we have decided to not use any shots of the narrative looking towards the camera, in many of these shots she was so we have decided to only use the lip syncing shots. When it came to editing we realised that these shots didn't have the best lighting so we will not be able to use many. From this we have learnt that we need be more aware of how outside lighting will effect our shots.
