‘All publicity is good publicity’
There are many artists over time have looked into the idea of
good publicity and bad publicity as they’re in the newspaper so therefore,
people will be talking about the artist whether good or bad.
Also over time there has been techniques that have been very
successful when promoting their albums. A well-known technique is giving away
free music as the Arctic Monkeys have done and have become very successful
because of this. They have previously given away free demos of their music at
gigs so this allowed the fans to upload the demo online to share with other
fans who couldn’t attend their gigs. By doing this it helped achieve worldwide
fame and allowed them to sell out their first album very quickly and by doing
this risky strategy, it helped them do so. If the audience doesn’t enjoy the
music for various reasons such as it being given to the wrong audience or
simply poor quality it means they would lose money instead of gaining it.
Another successful technique is giving free albums out in newspapers. Prince
used this strategy by releasing his album for free in the ‘Mail On Sunday’
which is a risk however, he has already achieved great fame and people
instantly knew the album would be worth buying the newpaper for. People heard
about this and bought the newspaper so this meant that people were playing
Prince’s album all across the UK and this is where his money was made as he
appealed to such a wide range of audiences therefore, they bought the tickets
to see him live as they liked the album so much.
