Digipaks

Digipaks are a style of packaging for CDs or DVDs, they're typically made from cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs. This has now become a trademark thing and was created by MeadWestvaco but is now used by many manufacturers. Currently digipaks are less popular than before as everything is done via the internet therefore they do not need a digipak to promote their dominate genre. It also is used to emphasise the artists image and could possibly create their star image and what they will be known for in the future.

Throughout digipaks there is a constant theme which fits in with the album and it allows awareness for the artist, selling and encouraging the audience to buy and listen to their music.

This would attract audiences of possibly of a younger age as the images are quite innocent and plain which reflected her career at the time and how she was an idol for many at the time. She also looks as if she is a teenager so it could possibly allow a teenage audience to relate to her and could then entice them to buy her album.

The digipak for Chrisitna Aguilera - Bi-on-ic is quite abstract as none of the images really link into each other the only real thing that links together is the theme of red lips. I feel this would appeal to a much older target audience due to the age of Christina Aguilera and possibly the content of the songs but I feel the use of contrasting colours and the bright red would catch the attention of any age but the theme is quite sexual as the middle image features her naked and it features the use of leather and red lipstick which have sexual connotations.

Rihanna - Loud is a digipak and an artist that appeals to a wide range of audiences, I think the it can range from teenagers to mid 30's and possibly a little later. I think it appeals to the teenage audience in the fact of Rihanna as an artist as some teenagers have grown up with her from her first single 'Pon De Replay' and the fact she has always been in the eye of the public and quite popular. However, I think it could appeal to other audiences due to the overuse of red as her hair is red and lipstick is red and not to mention when you open up the digipak it has her surrounded by red roses. Also her red hair has become a bit of a trademark and is always referenced for this and how it may influenced many people.
